End Small

We’ve talked about a morning routine and how a few little changes can set you up for the day ahead. Here are a few ideas for ending your day well. These will help you get to sleep faster and help you feel better prepared for whatever comes your way tomorrow. The more you can prepare ahead for tomorrow, the smoother your day will be. A better tomorrow starts tonight.

  • Tidy up your space. Clutter in your space can lead to clutter in your brain. Spend a few minutes at the end of the day putting things in their proper place so that you can go to bed with a clear mind (and wake up to a clean room). If you are loving simplifying and looking for some more ideas check out these ideas.
  • Write a list of what you need to remember for tomorrow or for the week ahead. Use this list for the next step!
  • Prepare ahead for your morning self. Set out what you need to make your morning run smoothly. Work out first thing? Put out your clothes. Love your morning cup of coffee? Set your coffee pot to auto-brew. Have a long day of class ahead of you? Pack your backpack the night before. Your morning self will thank you.
  • Put your phone on “do not disturb” and place it out of reach. We’ve all stayed up way too late scrolling when we meant to go to bed early. Get in the habit of not falling asleep to the glow of your screen.
  • Reflect on your day. Take a few minutes to think about your day — what are you thankful for? What could have gone better? If you like to journal, write it down.
  • Keep a piece of paper and a pen on your nightstand. If you can’t fall asleep because your brain keeps running, write down what’s bothering you. You’ll be much more prepared to tackle any problems after a great night of sleep.

Just like the morning routine, take 20 minutes at the end of your day to try some of these to create a routine that works for you! Let us know what works in the comments!
