The beginning of any school year is hectic. Packing to move to campus, moving into your new place, unpacking, organizing, getting settled, first day of classes and all the things.
Once classes get going your schedule starts to fill up, football season is in full swing, org fairs gather all your info and suddenly you find yourself super busy before you even get your feet under you.
This is your reminder that it is okay to pause. Take a break. Go for a walk. Clear your head. Look over your schedule and see if all those things are really what you want to be spending your time doing. Get coffee with a friend. Take a nap. Say no to something. Remove yourself from an email list.
Each of these acts is a tiny rebellion to the structures that want you to push through and keep doing more. The ones that tell you your value is in what you can do and how much of it is on your plate. You are more than what you produce and accomplish.
Pausing reminds us of that.
Without margin, your semester will continue to accelerate and you’ll never feel like you’re able to catch up. Do yourself a favor and build in time for rest and pausing now, before you are completely overwhelmed and desperately wishing for the end of the semester in mid-September.
So, here’s to pausing! Whatever it looks like for you. Schedule it in your planner, set a reminder on your phone, whatever it takes to just do it.
Cheering you on. As always, feel free to reach out (hello@simplycollege.org) if you need any support simplifying your college life this semester. I’m in your corner.
